This class will enable you to:
• Critically analyze gender and sexuality issues in Japan and China
• Construct your own arguments effectively, using appropriate data and evidence.
• Critically evaluate gender and sexuality issues from multiple perspectives.
This course examines how gender and sexuality issues emerge, are processed, and are practiced in East Asia, with a focus on Japan and China. We will explore how conventional understandings of gender, sexuality, marriage, family, and employment are challenged in rapidly evolving Asian societies, particularly focusing on how shifting sociocultural, political, and economic contexts have shaped gender and sexual relations.
