Notes

【Course Objectives】

In this course students will explore concepts and subjects concerning media/cultural studies in contemporary Japan. Students will examine media discourse and representation with conceptual tools to better understand contexts and issues arising from gender, race, and class dynamics in contemporary Japanese society.

【Course Contents】

This is an intensive discussion-oriented course, in which students are expected to read academic texts, present individually/as a group, analyze media/pop culture products, collaborate for classwork, answer quizzes, and actively discuss theoretical concepts, observations, and opinions every week.
