This class will help you to:
Critically analyze race and racism in Japan from historical, economic, legal, and political perspectives.
Explore and understand the social inequality experienced by various ethnic groups in Japan.
Construct your own arguments, using data and evidence appropriately.
In this course, we will engage in a critical analysis of race and racism issues in Japan. Additionally, we will discuss the challenges confronting various ethnic minorities and explore the influence of globalization on ethnic issues in the country. The course specifically focuses on the discrimination faced by Ainu, Buraku, Zainichi Koreans, Okinawans, and foreign migrant workers.
