| 備考/ NotesNotes |
1. Introduce foundational concepts in gender and queer studies
2. Analyze representations of gender and sexuality across popular and subcultural narratives
3. Understand how gender and queer theory operate within non-Western contexts
4. Develop critical arguments using media analysis and communication theories
This course explores gender studies and queer studies through the lens of communication, focusing on how meaning is produced, negotiated, and contested through cultural practices.
Using case studies from a range of contexts, with particular attention to contemporary media, the course examines how representations of gender and sexuality are shaped by narrative, audience, and power.
Rather than treating gender and queer theory as universal, the course emphasizes contextual and de-Westernized approaches, asking how these concepts take on different meanings across social and cultural settings. Students will develop critical tools to analyze how communication practices both reflect and actively shape understandings of gender and sexuality.
