For PEACE and DLP students |
•Become familiar with international and historical perspectives on war and on nonviolence and peace.
•Better understand cross-cultural attitudes toward conflict, peace, and nonviolence
•Foster skills to write and speak about literature in English.
This course treats literary works from around the world about the experience of war and the search for peace. We will look at works from a variety of genres including short fiction, essays, poetry, and songs. Writing and speaking practice, including small group discussions and essays, will be used to foster improved English communication skills.

Students will need to come to class ready to contribute having completed the readings for the week. Students will need to submit their weekly response to the readings via the discussion tool on Canvas.

• The Canvas course delivery system will be used extensively for sharing course readings and submission of student work.
• Small group and pair discussion will be a regular feature of this course and will complement lectures accompanied by Powerpoint slideshows.
• Late work will only be accepted in the case of an excused absence. Please refer to university policies to determine what qualifies as an acceptable excuse according to the university. Additionally, if you know you will be absent when an assignment is due, you must make arrangements with me to submit your assignment before the due date.
