基礎科目（一般） |
This course is one of the basic modules of the Global Studies subject area. The emphasis is on researching culture, in particular understanding the history, methodology and problem awareness associated with cultural studies. Using concepts of cultural studies to learn how to choose topics and points of analysis in studying each region will be dealt with.
Culture is a system of representation shared by people who form a regional community or group, and often becomes the rule of behavior of the group members. Not surprisingly, culture changes over time and as the result of cross-cultural interaction.
Students learn the methods for researching the culture of the specific region covered at the College of Intercultural Communication. We begin by thinking about what culture is and use various examples to learn about cultural characteristics and diversity, and consider how the contemporary multicultural society has developed. By reading and discussing texts such as articles and academic papers related to the lecture, students learn to understand their place in the world and develop their own comparative research perspective. They decide on a research subject on one of the topics covered in class, gather information, consider various aspects of the issue, give a class presentation, and summarize their findings in a term paper.

本科目はグローバル・スタディーズ領域の基礎科目である。文化研究、特にカルチュラル・スタディーズの歴史や方法、問題意識を理解する。さらに、カルチュラル・スタディーズの概念を用いて、各領域におけるテーマの選び方や分析の視点などについても学ぶ。

文化とは、地域社会や集団を構成する人々が共有する表象体系であり、その人々の行動の規範となることが多い。当然のことながら異文化との交流により、また時代とともに変化する。
授業では異文化コミュニケーション学部において特定地域の文化を研究する方法を学ぶ。文化とは何かを考えるところから始め、各種事例により文化の固有性と多様性について学び、現代の多文化社会のあり方を検討する。講義内容に関連した記事・論文等を読み，討論することで自らの立ち位置を確認し、比較研究の視点を身につける。講義で取り上げるテーマに関連した研究課題を設定し、資料収集の上考察して研究発表を行い、成果を学期末リポートにまとめる。
