2.To be able to concretely discuss issues of social development in so-called developing countries
3.To understand how to get involved with social development through participatory learning
It has been revealed in recent years that economic growth does not necessarily bring poverty reduction in the region, and as a counter-concept social development has attracted more attention. Social development covers various fields such as education, medical care, health and hygiene, disaster prevention and the environment. At the same time, it is closely linked to development issues such as “residents’ participation in development,” the “gender gap in development,” and “socially vulnerable people”.
In this course, we will have an overview of the concept of social development and discuss its issues in so-called developing countries.

近年、経済成長が地域の貧困削減に必ずしも結びつかないことが明らかとなり、経済開発の対概念としての社会開発への関心が高まっています。社会開発がカバーする領域は、教育や医療、保健衛生、防災、環境など多岐にわたります。また同時に、「開発への住民参加」、「開発における性差」、「社会的弱者」といった開発イシューとも密接な関連を有しています。
授業では、社会開発の概念を概観した上で、バングラデシュの事例を通じて、途上国と呼ばれる国々における社会開発の課題を、受講生とともに考えていきたいと思っています。
