In this course, students will understand the descriptions in specialized books on music and the way of approaches for cross-cultural research. It's difficult to explain about the music, but students strive to verbalize one's own ideas.
The course will focus on the process of accepting and sublimating different cultures while referring to the history of music in modern Japan (especially the history of composition) as a case study. Through reading the works of Japanese composers and biographies, we will examine their creative issues and the relationship between the ideals and works, and at the same time learn how biographical narratives (or evaluations) shape the image of composers.

音楽に関する専門書の記述内容や異文化研究のアプローチについて理解し、自らの考えを言語化できるようにする。
In this course, students will understand the descriptions in specialized books on music and the way of approaches for cross-cultural research. It's difficult to explain about the music, but students strive to verbalize one's own ideas.
近代日本の音楽史（特に創作史）を事例として、異文化を受容し昇華させてきた過程に迫る。日本人作曲家の著作集や伝記を講読し、創作上の課題や理念と実践との関連について考察すると同時に、伝記叙述（あるいは評価）が作曲家像を形成してゆく一面を学ぶ。
