Humanism, which Western modernity has been pursuing, has long ago reached its limits. To depart from humanism, which is at the root of this world made solely of human beings, is to depart from "the idea that human beings are the only masters on the earth. In this course, we will take up two subjects, "multispecies anthropology" and "animism," via contemporary anthropology, for further discussion.
Contemporary anthropology sees culture as something that is not necessarily shared only by humans, and considers that nothing is known about religion unless we question and inquire into the human attitudes that underlie it. In this course, we will discuss the topics of "Animals," "Species," "Animism," and "Life," in that order, and give lectures on multi-species anthropology and animism in order to consider culture and religion now.

西洋近代が追究してきたヒューマニズムはとっくの昔に限界に達している。人間のみから作られたこの世界のおおもとにあるヒューマニズムから脱するとは、「地球上で人間だけが主人であるとする思想」から脱することである。本授業では、現代人類学を経由して、「マルチスピーシーズ人類学」と「アニミズム」という二つの主題を取り上げて、考察を進める。

現代人類学は、文化とは必ずしも人間だけに共有されるものではないと捉え、また、宗教とはその根源の人間の態度を問い尋ねてみなければ、何もわかったことにはならないと考えている。本授業では、「アニマルズ（動物）」「スピーシーズ（種）」「アニミズム」「ライフ（生命）」というトピックを順に取り上げて、マルチスピーシーズ人類学とアニミズム論に関して講義をおこない、文化と宗教の現在を考える。
Contemporary anthropology sees culture as something that is not necessarily shared only by humans, and considers that nothing is known about religion unless we question and inquire into the human attitudes that underlie it.
