The primary objectives of the course are to:
1) familiarise students with different conceptualizations of L2 oral proficiency;
2) familiarise students with fundamental theories of instructed second language acquisition;
3) enable students to apply different L2 learning theories into teaching activities; and
4) enable students to adapt teaching activities in relation to individual differences and social contexts
This course addresses fundamental theories of (instructed) second language acquisition and critically evaluates several major language pedagogies and contexts—content-based language teaching (CBLT), task-based language teaching (TBLT), study abroad and computer-assisted language learning (CALL), focusing on the development of second language (L2) speaking skills. To this end, students are required to engage with assigned readings, weekly quizzes, in-class lectures, micro-teaching activities and group discussion.

このコースでは、第二言語のスピーキング能力に焦点を当てながら、第二言語習得の基礎理論を取り上げ、内容重視型言語教育(CBLT)、タスクに基づく教授法(TBLT)、留学、コンピュータ支援言語学習(CALL)などの主要な言語教育法について、強みと弱みを把握しながら学習環境と照らし合わせて評価する。そのために、学生は読み物、毎週の小テスト、授業中の講義、マイクロティーチング活動、グループディスカッションに参加することが求められる。
