- Understand the concept and methods of fieldwork as a research approach.
- Explain the strengths and challenges of each method.
- Discuss the ethical issues associated with fieldwork, particularly ethnographic research.
- Conduct fieldwork based on individual interests and write an ethnographic article.
Fieldwork is a fundamental research method employed across various social science disciplines and holds particular significance in cultural anthropology. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the scope and historical development of fieldwork, as well as its diverse methodologies, including both in-person and remote approaches. Additionally, students will critically examine the ethical considerations inherent in fieldwork practices. As part of the course, participants will formulate a research plan on a topic of their interest, conduct fieldwork, and produce an ethnographic article based on their findings.

フィールドワークは社会科学諸分野の研究者及び学生に広く用いられる調査方法で、文化人類学者にとっても非常に重要なものである。この授業ではフィールドワークがなしうること、その歴史、そして様々な方法（対面・非対面ともに）についての知識を身につけた上で、フィールドワークに伴う倫理的諸課題について議論する。受講者は関心のあるテーマについて調査計画を作成しフィールドワークを行なった上で民族誌記事を執筆する。
