備考/ NotesNotes |
Students will further their understanding of the relationship between the meaning and structure of language by learning different ways of thinking in linguistics in terms of how language is related to meaning and understanding, and the frameworks used to examine these themes within cognitive linguistics.
The course will review theories of language prior to the advent of modern linguistics and the foundations of modern linguistics prior to cognitive linguistics, and introduce linguistic problems related to meaning and cognition. The instructor will provide commentary on the perspectives of reference points, prototypes and categorization as well as metaphor, metonymy and other expressive phenomena as the frameworks and major themes of cognitive linguistics in dealing with the problems related to meaning and cognition.
