Through text reading and discussion, students will learn the definition of visual culture and understand how to think about looking and seeing, and analyse diverse visual media.
The Introduction and Chapter 1, "Who," of A.L. Boylan, Visual Culture, Cambridge, MA (2020) will be read in class. An in-depth examination of the artworks, videos, news reels, or other visual media mentioned in the book will follow the reading, and students will understand the framework and methods of Visual Culture Studies.

各履修者は、あらかじめ講読テクストを読んでおくこと。授業後は、キーワード、講読テクストで提起された問題、実例として紹介された美術作品や動画等については完全に理解しているか、復習をしておくこと。各授業時にその回に行った講読を踏まえたリアクションペーパー課題を課すので、自分の理解度の把握にも活用されたい。

講読テクストは、マサチューセッツ工科大学出版会が刊行する教科書Essential Knowledge Seriesの1冊である。
Canvas LMSを介して教材の配布等を行う。必要に応じて教材を印刷したり、電子端末を持参すること。
近年研究が盛んとなっている視覚文化（Visual Culture）について、英文テクスト講読を通じて学習し、自分でも多様な視覚文化のあり方について考え、理解できるようになる。
Through text reading and discussion, students will learn the definition of visual culture and understand how to think about looking and seeing, and analyse diverse visual media.
A.L. Boylan著Visual Cultureを講読する。導入部および第1章Whoを中心に講読する予定である。テクストで取り上げられる古代オリエント時代から21世紀までの多様な美術作品、動画、ニュース報道等の事例についてさらに深掘りし、視覚文化研究に特徴的な考え方、分析と研究の方法について学習する。
