This course offers students the opportunity to recognize the world of various cultures and to explain concretely the phenomena caused by cultural differences. Students will also come to objectively discuss measures to coexist with pluralistic and different cultures while respecting each other.
In today's society, with a declining birth rate and increasing globalization, it is more important than ever to accept and coexist with different cultures. Japan is no exception.
This lesson will focus primarily on Quebec, Canada, and through a detailed examination of the model of interculturalism that is promoted there, we will explore the possibilities of applying it to other societies, including Japan.
Quebec is a distinctive French-speaking region located in a corner of North America. Although they are a minority on the North American continent and in Canada as a whole, about 80% of Quebecers are native French speakers and have built their own culture and society. However, the inclusion of immigrants is essential to Quebec's sustainable development. How is Quebec trying to describe the future of its society, what efforts are needed and what role can immigrants play in it? Various debates have taken place since the second half of the 20th century. In class, after reviewing the history of Quebec, we will examine aspects of "interculturalism" through some texts, focusing on language policy, secularism, and literary works written by immigrants. We will include class discussions whenever possible. French language skills are not required.

さまざまな文化の並立する世界を認識し，文化の差異によってもたらされる現象を具体的に述べることができる。また，多元的で異なる文化が互いに尊重されながら共生するための方策について，客観的に論じることができる。

少子高齢化やグローバル化が進む現代社会において，異なる文化を受け入れ，それらと共存していくことは，これまでになく重要な課題となっている。日本も例外ではない。
この授業では主としてカナダのケベック州に焦点を当て，そこで推進されている多元主義のモデルである「間文化主義（インターカルチュラリズム）」の詳細な検討を通して，日本を含む他の社会への応用の可能性を探る。
ケベックは北米の片隅に位置するフランス語圏という特殊な地域である。北米大陸においてもカナダ全体からみてもマイノリティでありながら，ケベック州内では約8割の住民がフランス語を母語とし，独自の文化・社会を築いてきた。しかし，ケベックの持続的発展のためには移民の受け入れが不可欠である。ケベックでは，自分たちの社会の将来をどのように描こうとしているのか，その際必要な取り組みは何なのか，移民たちはそこでどのような役割を担えるのか，20世紀後半以降，さまざまな議論が戦わされてきた。授業では，ケベックの歴史を概観したあと，いくつかのテクストを用いながら，「間文化主義」の諸相を言語政策やライシテ（政教分離），さらには移民によって書かれた文学作品などにも注目しながら考察する。可能な限りディスカッションや質疑応答を取り入れながら授業を進めていく。 フランス語の知識はとくに必要としない。
