The goal of this seminar is for students to determine themes for Senior Research and Thesis by connecting their awareness of various issues to academic themes, and classes are conducted to help students master the fundamental elements (research methods and the like) required to make that determination.
The purpose of this seminar is to provide the students with the basic knowledge and methodologies for studying bilingual language development, language use, language education, as well as the cognitive and psychological aspects of bilingualism. Specifically, we cover topics such as how children acquire the two grammars, how they differentiate the two languages according to context, and how the use of the two languages affect their cognition and identity. The students will develop their understanding of the field and narrow down their research topic through reading academic articles written in English and participating in class discussions. They will further learn the process of writing a research paper through searching for references, creating research proposals, and experiencing different types of research methods.

各自の問題意識を学術的なテーマと結びつけることで「卒業研究」のテーマを設定することを目標とし、そのために必要な基礎的な事項（研究方法など）を身につけるための授業を行う。

この演習では、バイリンガルの言語発達と言語使用ならびに認知・心理・学習面の特徴、そしてその研究方法について学ぶ。具体的には、こどもが二つの言語（語彙、文法等）をどのように習得するか、二つの言葉を実際の使用場面でどのように使い分けているのか、二言語使用に伴う認知面ならびにアイデンティティ形成への影響についても扱う。主に英語で書かれた論文の講読ならびにディスカッションを通して理解を深めた上で、各自がテーマを絞り、データ分析に基いた論文を書くプロセスを実践的に学ぶ。
