Notes

【Course Objectives】

This seminar seeks to equip students with the critical thinking, reading, and writing skills for their Senior Research and Thesis. Students will be taught the foundational elements of research (organization, methods, etc.), and will select and write on a topic of their choice.

【Course Contents】

How does "communication" shape our understanding of gender, identity, and culture? In this seminar, we break down texts—ranging from anime and films to Tik Tok trends and global social movements—using qualitative, close-reading methods. You will develop critical sensibilities, or the ability to identify and deconstruct power structures. You will also experiment with a combination of feminist, queer, decolonial, and rhetorical approaches and apply them to case studies that spark your curiosity. This is a collaborative space where your ideas lead the conversation. Your own interests shape the research you produce.
