Advanced Seminar I aims to help students understand the fundamental elements of conducting their Senior Research and Thesis. Students will determine a theme for their senior thesis by connecting their academic interests and research questions developed through their undergraduate studies to academic themes.
The theme of this seminar is “Translation and Interpreting in Public Services,” focusing on legal interpreting and other linguistic needs in public services. The first half of this seminar introduces the fundamental elements of conducting their Senior Research and Thesis, including identifying credible sources, understanding various research methodologies, and conducting proper referencing. The second half of the seminar will focus on refining individual research topics through literature reviews, site visits, and class discussions. By the end of the semester, students will deliver a presentation on an overview of their project, including the research design and execution plan, and submit a final report on their research plan.

| 授業内容に応じて、適宜資料を配布する。 | |||||
授業は教科書を使用した講義とディスカッションを中心に行う。授業では学生への質問も活発に行うため、積極的かつ能動的な受講態度が期待される。また、仲間と協力しながら学修を進める姿勢が求められる。授業で扱う資料は、日本語の文献を中心とし、随時、英語の文献を扱う。卒業論文は、日本語と英語のいずれでも提出可能とする。
授業にPCまたはタブレット端末を持参すること。
授業の状況によって変更されることがある。
本演習では、卒業研究に必要な基礎知識を習得する。また、受講生各自の関心とこれまでの学びの過程で抱いた問題意識を学術的な研究と結びつけつつ、卒業研究テーマの決定を行う。

本演習では、コミュニティ通訳翻訳に関する内容をテーマとした卒業研究を指導する*1。前半は、講義とディスカッションを通じて、卒業研究を遂行する上で必要となる基礎的な知識（文献の探し方や研究方法、引用の仕方など）を身につける。後半は、受講生各自の研究課題に関連する文献講読とディスカッション*2、現場視察を通じて研究分野への理解を深め、研究構想を具体化していく。学期末には、具体化した研究構想をもとに、卒業研究の概要を発表する。また、卒業研究のテーマと実施方法に関する最終レポート（研究計画書）を提出する。
※1本演習は司法通訳を主要テーマとするが、学生各自の関心に即して柔軟に対応することもある。
※2自ら選んだテーマに関する先行研究を各自が渉猟し、その内容に関する発表と質疑応答という形で進めていく。
