The goal of this seminar is for students to determine themes for Senior Research and Thesis by connecting their awareness of various issues to academic themes, and classes are conducted to help students master the fundamental elements (research methods and the like) required to make that determination.
The goal of this seminar is for students to understand the various industrial bases, social norms, production environments and regional characteristics of Japanese and other films throughout the world, to analyze the races, ethnicities, genders and sexualities in the films from a transnational perspective and to search for themes for their graduation theses. Classes will be spent considering representative works and genres that deal with students’ chosen research themes, and considering cultural meanings and specific cinematic strategies that prominent directors used to recreate the identities of social minorities in their works. Students will learn basic theories and methods of film studies to use in their film analysis.

各自の問題意識を学術的なテーマと結びつけることで「卒業研究」のテーマを設定することを目標とし、そのために必要な基礎的な事項(研究方法など)を身につけるための授業を行う。

本演習では、映画が持つ様々な産業的基盤と社会的規範、製作環境、地域的特性を理解し、映画における人種や民族、ジェンダーとセクシュアリティをトランスナショナルな観点で分析し、各自の卒業研究テーマを探ることを目的とする。授業の内容は各自の研究テーマを扱っている代表的な作品やジャンル、主な監督の作品が社会的マイノリティーのアイデンティティを再現するために使う特有な映画的方略と文化的意味を考察する。映像分析実践のためにフィルム・スタディーズの基本的な理論と方法論を学習する。
授業は学生自ら作品を選び、その作品をこれまで学習した知識に基づき、社会的・歴史的な解釈と政治、文化的含意に関して議論する。 戦争と植民の記憶、移住、国際結婚、女性、青少年と貧困層などの問題を扱った作品を分析とディスカッションする。それから作品の歴史的・社会的コンテクストを理解し、それが指示する意味を分析する。そして、ナショナル・シネマとトランスナショナル・シネマ、またグローバル・シネマとは何かを考える。
