The goal of this seminar is for students to determine themes for Senior Research and Thesis by connecting their awareness of various issues to academic themes, and classes are conducted to help students master the fundamental elements (research methods and the like) required to make that determination.
This seminar aims to understand the diverse industrial foundations, social norms, production environments, and regional characteristics of film, analyze race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality in cinema from a transnational perspective, and explore individual graduation research topics. The course content examines representative works, genres, and major directors' films related to each student's research topic, exploring the specific cinematic strategies and cultural meanings used to represent the identities of social minorities. Students will learn the fundamental theories and methodologies necessary for analysis.
In class, students will select works themselves and discuss their social and historical interpretations, as well as their political and cultural implications, based on the knowledge acquired thus far. We will analyze and discuss works addressing issues such as the memory of war and colonization, ethnicity, and gender. We will then understand the historical and social context of these works and analyze the meanings they signify. Finally, we will consider what constitutes national cinema, transnational cinema, and global cinema.

各自の問題意識を学術的なテーマと結びつけることで「卒業研究」のテーマを設定することを目標とし、そのために必要な基礎的な事項(研究方法など)を身につけるための授業を行う。

本演習では、映画が持つ様々な産業的基盤と社会的規範、製作環境、地域的特性を理解し、映画における人種や民族、ジェンダーとセクシュアリティをトランスナショナルな観点で分析し、各自の卒業研究テーマを探ることを目的とする。授業の内容は各自の研究テーマを扱っている代表的な作品やジャンル、主な監督の作品が社会的マイノリティのアイデンティティを再現するために使う特有な映画的方略と文化的意味を考察する。分析に必要な基本的な理論と方法論を学習する。
授業では、学生自ら作品を選び、その作品をこれまで学習した知識に基づき、社会的・歴史的な解釈と政治、文化的含意に関して議論する。 戦争と植民の記憶、エスニシティ、ジェンダーなどの問題を扱った作品を分析とディスカッションする。それから作品の歴史的・社会的コンテクストを理解し、それが指示する意味を分析する。そして、ナショナル・シネマとトランスナショナル・シネマ、またグローバル・シネマとは何かを考える。
