Notes

【Course Objectives】

The goal of this seminar is for students to determine themes for Senior Research and Thesis by connecting their awareness of various issues to academic themes, and classes are conducted to help students master the fundamental elements (research methods and the like) required to make that determination.

【Course Contents】

The aim of this course is to introduce and explore the development of achievement motivation. The development of achievement motivation is also one way to understand the development of individual identity. Students learn the influences on a child's belief of self competency and of personal values. We will discuss how and why self competency beliefs and values change over time from childhood to adulthood. This process of identity development is related to broad topics, such as self-esteem, as well as more specific topics, such as foreign language learning. Students will be encouraged to connect this discussion of achievement motivation to an area of their interest. We will discuss results of research as well as share our own experiences in order to understand the role of motivation in what we do, and specifically, to language learning.
