Students will identify a research topic and develop research questions for their senior thesis and start a literature review.
This seminar aims to examine key issues in intercultural communication and multicultural societies from historical and transnational perspectives and to support students in identifying research topics and developing well-defined research questions for their graduation theses. The course begins by introducing historical and conceptual approaches to Japanese society and migration, and then examines empirical research works on migrants that address the intersection of multiple factors—including nation, race, ethnicity, gender, class, and religion—to better understand issues related to intercultural communication and multicultural societies. Students will then learn how to formulate effective research questions, develop specific research questions for their own graduation theses, and conduct a literature review of relevant prior studies.

卒業研究のテーマと具体的な研究課題を設定し、先行研究文献調査を開始する
Students will identify a research topic and develop research questions for their senior thesis and start a literature review.
異文化コミュニケーションと多文化社会に関する諸課題を、歴史的かつトランスナショナルな視点で捉え、各自の卒業研究のテーマと具体的な研究課題を探ることを目的とする。授業ではまず、日本社会と移民について歴史的そして概念的に捉えることを学ぶ。次に、ネイション、人種、エスニシティ、ジェンダー、階級、宗教など複数の要素が交差する、移民についての実証的研究論文を読むことで、異文化コミュニケーションと多文化社会の諸課題への理解を深める。その後、卒業研究の軸となる研究課題（リサーチ・クエスチョン）とは何かについて考え、各自の卒業論文の具体的な研究課題を設定し、それに関する先行研究文献調査を行う。
