【Course Objectives】

Students will gain the ability to narrow their search for graduation thesis themes through intensified, independent study of the fields of their choice.

【Course Contents】

Students will consider the three crucial elements of drama (performers, audience and venue) as they learn basic knowledge of the theater, dramatic performance and performing arts of East Asia, first focusing on those of Japan. First, students will learn the historical background of the performing arts and properties of various types of performing arts through the societies and lives of people in different periods.
Students will use this knowledge to deduce the properties of Japanese performing arts, and prepare to compare them to those of East Asian performing arts. Each student will determine their own theme, organize bibliographical sources
and video resources for reports and presentations, participate in discussions and write a final report.
*: Videos will be used in class to increase understanding.
