The goal of this seminar is for students to determine themes for Senior Research and Thesis by connecting their awareness of various issues to academic themes, and classes are conducted to help students master the fundamental elements (research methods and the like) required to make that determination.
Reading copious amounts of literature on Japanese language education will help students narrow their search for graduation thesis themes. Students will take turns giving presentations and leading discussions on their theses, and will present provisional plans for their graduation theses twice during the semester. Students are required to search for academic papers that relate to their chosen themes, and to explain their findings to their classmates. In addition, discussion about academic papers will ensure that students fully understand the difference between reports and academic papers.

参加者各自がどんな問題意識、どんな興味を持っているのかを探り、各自の問題意識を学術的なテーマと結びつけることで「卒業研究」のテーマを設定することを目標とし、そのために必要な基礎的な事項（研究方法など）を身につけるための授業を行う。

日本語教育に関する文献を数多く読むことにより、参加者がそれぞれ卒業研究のテーマを絞り込んでいく。毎回、分担して論文についてのプレゼンテーション及びディスカッションを行い、学期中に２回、暫定的な卒業研究のプランを発表する。参加者は、自らが自分のテーマに関連する論文を探し、それについて他の参加者に説明することを求められる。また、レポートと論文の違いなどについても、論文についてディスカッションをすることを通して身につけていく。
