The goal of this seminar is for students to determine themes for Senior Research and Thesis by connecting their awareness of various issues to academic themes. Classes are conducted to help students understand the fundamental elements (research questions, methods, etc.) in conducting research.
In the first half of this course, you will study translation and interpreting from a sociological perspective. Using past translations and other materials, you will also learn translation and interpreting methods and techniques. You will further explore the concepts, theories, and research methods necessary for this work. In addition, you will learn how to use resources and databases, as well as how to search for information, which will help you decide on a topic and methodology for your graduation thesis.
In the second half, you will engage in discussions and presentations related to your graduation research. You will also take part in activities that involve observing real translation and interpreting practices at events and study sessions organized by civic groups.

各自の問題意識を学術的なテーマと結びつけることで「卒業研究」のテーマを設定することを目標とし、そのために必要な基礎的な事項（研究方法など）を身につけるための授業を行う。

この演習の前半では、社会学的な視点から翻訳・通訳を考えていきます。過去の翻訳などを材料にして、翻訳・通訳の仕方やテクニックについても学びます。そのために必要な概念や理論、研究方法などについても学びます。また、卒業研究のテーマや研究方法を決めるのに役立つ資料やデータベースの使い方や情報の検索方法についても学びます。後半では、卒業研究に関する議論と報告に取り組みます。また、社会団体のイベント・学習会・合評会などでの通訳・翻訳の実践現場を観察する活動にも参加していただきます。
