備考/ NotesNotes |
Students will decide on a topic, complete a literature review, and design a research plan for their graduation thesis. The research plan will include either data collection (e.g., a survey and/or interviews) or the creation of a project.
Students will learn the fundamentals for doing academic research. They will develop a full awareness and deep understanding of their chosen thesis theme through academic reading and discussion. Students will decide whether to collect and analyze data or to focus on the creation of project. To collect data, students will create research questions and understand how and why to collect data. Possible themes could be or could be related to: elementary school foreign language education, English language teaching, language learning motivation, or about a more general aspect of motivation. To create a project, students will create a product based upon theory in order to offer solutions to an identified problem or gap faced by practitioners. Possible themes could be or could be related to the teaching of a foreign language, the learning of a foreign language, or about a more general aspect of motivation.

補足事項 (Supplementary Items) |
---|
The course will be carried out via peer and instructor discussions. Generally speaking, students need to develop the ability to find readings of interest and to share parts of the readings that are of importance to their thesis. |
It is essential for Advanced Seminar students to take initiative in their own work toward the successful completion of their Senior Thesis. The Advanced Seminar 2 course demands that students not only read a lot, but also complete, at the minimum, their Literature Review.
