【Course Objectives】

Advanced Seminar 2 is a continuation of Advanced Seminar 1 and will dive deeper into the literature review and the methodology part of your thesis. This middle part of the thesis journey will require student's reading and writing skills. Students are expected to have started their fieldwork or data collection by the end of this seminar.

【Course Contents】

This second of the three semesters will have more individual consultations as the student shapes their individual thesis. In addition to the seminar meeting regularly, the course content will include individual reading assignments and discussion sessions with the instructor.
The one-on-one discussions will also focus on collecting data for each student.

1 Course re-introduction
Welcome students to Advanced Seminar 2. Discuss this semester's course outline and deliverables.
Discussion on how to convert their proposal into Chapter 1 of their final thesis.
2 Discussion: Reading for literature review
Students talk about their literature review progress in class. The focus is on who are the major scholars in their field, what are the arguments, and the student's critique of these scholars.
3 Discussion: Methodology write-up and data collection
Students talk about their methodology writing progress in class. The focus is on how they are combining the chosen theory with an adequate/appropriate methodology for collecting data.
4 Individual Consultations 1
Students meet with the instructor to discuss their theses.
5 Individual consultations 2
Students meet with the instructor to discuss their thesis.
6 Presentation of draft Methodology Chapter
7 Discussion: Reading for literature review
Students talk about their literature review progress in class.
8 Discussion: Methodology write-up and data collection
Students talk about their methodology writing progress in class.
9 Individual Consultations 3
Students meet with the instructor to discuss their theses.
10 Individual Consultations 4
Students meet with the instructor to discuss their theses.
