Students will create research plans on their chosen themes, investigate previous research, gather and organize data and progress toward writing the final versions of their graduation theses.
In this seminar students will practice film analysis to help them work on their graduation theses. Students will organize reference materials and previous research related to the research theme they determined in Advanced Seminar 1. This seminar will give them a stronger theoretical and logical base in text analysis, and deepen their understanding of the social and historical background and context of individual pieces of work. To practice analyzing video grammar, students will form groups and use video cameras to create roughly three-minute films on multiculturalism and transnationalism in Japanese society as it relates to their individual research themes, and then present the videos and hold discussions.

本授業では、卒業研究に取り組むための映像分析実践を行う。専門演習1で決めた研究テーマに関連する参考文献と先行研究をまとめる。テクスト分析の理論的・論理的基礎を固め、個別的作品が扱っている社会・歴史的背景とコンテクストの理解を深める。映像文法の分析を演習するためにビデオカメラで各自の研究テーマに合わせて＜日本社会における多文化主義とトランスナショナリズム＞について約3分の分量の映像作品をグループ製作し、発表とディスカッションを行う。
授業は毎回学生自ら作品を選び、その作品をこれまで学習した知識に基づき、社会的・歴史的な解釈と政治、文化的含意に関して議論する。 戦争と植民の記憶、移住、国際結婚、女性、青少年と貧困層などの問題を扱った作品を分析し、ディスカッションする。それから作品の歴史的・社会的コンテクストを理解し、それが指示する意味を分析する。そして、 ナショナル・シネマとトランスナショナル・シネマ、またグローバル・シネマとは何かを考える。
