1. To gain a clear understanding of the main concepts, theories, and ways of thinking used in political science, as a foundation for further study in the College of Law and Politics.
2. To develop basic skills for describing and explaining real political events by using the concepts and theories learned in class.
This course is an introductory course for students who are new to political science. It explains what political science studies and how political phenomena can be analyzed using key concepts and perspectives.
The course first looks at basic topics such as politics and power, the state, and democracy, which help students understand the foundations of political systems. It then examines closely connected topics—citizens, media and public opinion, politicians and political parties, groups and politics, and political institutions—to show how politics works in practice through people, organizations, and rules. The course also introduces politics beyond national borders, focusing on how international politics and globalization affect domestic politics. In the final session, students review the main topics and gain an overview of different approaches in political science.
To support learning, students answer short survey questions in each class and take part in discussions based on the results. Through these activities, students build basic skills for understanding and explaining real political phenomena using political science concepts and theories.

（1）法学部における政治学系科目を履修するための基礎として，政治学の主要な概念・理論・分析視角を体系的に理解する。
（2）授業で学んだ概念や理論を通じて，現実の政治現象を読み解き，その意味や背景を説明できるようになる。

本授業は，これから政治学を専門的に学んでいく学生を対象とした導入科目です。政治学とは何を対象とし，どのような概念や視点によって政治現象を理解しようとする学問なのかについて，全体像を意識しながら学びます。
授業ではまず，「政治と権力」「国家」「デモクラシー」といった基本的なテーマを通じて，政治を成り立たせている原理や制度の前提について検討します。これらの理解を踏まえ，政治が現実にどのような主体と仕組みによって動いているのかを考えるために，「市民」「メディアと世論」「政治家と政党」「集団と政治」「政治制度」といった，相互に関連するテーマを体系的に取り上げます。さらに，「国境を越える政治」というテーマでは，国際政治やグローバル化の進展が国内政治に与える影響を扱い，国家の枠を超えた政治現象にも目を向けます。最終回では，これまでに扱った諸テーマを振り返り，政治学における多様なアプローチや関心領域を整理します。
なお，本授業では，授業目標（2）を達成するための工夫として，各回のテーマに関連する設問について受講者全員から意見をアンケート形式で集め，その結果をもとに授業内で議論を行います。こうした双方向的な取り組みを通じて，政治学の概念や理論を用いて現実の政治現象を理解し，説明するための基礎的な力を養います。
