【Course Objectives】

The objective of this course is to introduce students to the basics of Japanese property law from a comparative perspective.

【Course Contents】

We begin the course with an introduction to the nature of property and property rights. Then we explore the different ways of acquiring, transferring and exercising property rights. Japanese property law will be the basis for most of our discussions with some comparisons to the laws of the United States and England. We use the Socratic Method to investigate real and hypothetical cases so students will be asked questions every class.
