This course introduces students to legal reasoning and legal writing. Students will learn how to read judicial opinions, identify legal issues, analyze legal rules, and communicate legal arguments clearly and effectively.
Students will also develop the ability to organize legal arguments using the IRAC (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion) method through writing exercises, case analysis, and advocacy assignments.
By the end of the course, students will learn how to read case law, and produce clear, logical, and persuasive legal writing.
This course focuses on the development of legal reasoning and legal writing skills.
Throughout the course, students will complete writing exercises designed to strengthen legal reasoning and legal writing skills.
Note Regarding Participation: Class attendance, active participation, and preparation are expected. If you are unable to attend class, please contact me by email before absences occur, or as soon as possible after class starts if you have an unexpected emergency. Unauthorized absences will be considered in calculating a student’s class participation score.
