【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

アジア政治の基本的概念および中国を中心とした地域の歴史的展開を概観し、中国の台頭と周辺諸国への影響について考えること。

This course provides an overview of the basic concepts of Asian politics and the historical development of the region, with a particular focus on China. It examines China’s rise and considers its impact on neighboring countries.

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

本講義では、アジア政治を理解するための視座となる基本的概念を理解するとともに、東アジアにおける「中国の台頭」という現象を、現代の政治状況にとどまらず、19世紀以降の歴史的文脈に照らして理解します。特に、近代以降の中国とその周辺地域との関係変化、植民地支配や戦争、脱植民地化の過程を辿り、今日の地域秩序の背景を明らかにします。

アジアは多様性を含む地域であり、各国の政治体制・経済状況・文化や価値観も大いに異なっています。第一部では、19世紀以降の東アジア・東南アジアにおける国民国家の形成過程を政治史的に捉え、アジア全体を理解するための基本的な概念について説明します。また同時に、周辺地域ではマイノリティとして位置づけられてきた華人社会の動態にも注目します。
第一部で紹介した切り口を踏まえて、第二部では、アジア政治の重心となっている中国に着目し、現代に至るまでの近代中国の国家形成とその対外的展開について概観し、その特徴を把握することを目指します。
第三部では、香港を事例として、存在感を高める中国の影響に対して、周辺地域はどのように対応するべきかを考える糸口とします。

This course aims to introduce fundamental concepts that serve as analytical perspectives for understanding Asian politics, while examining the phenomenon of China’s rise in East Asia not only in terms of contemporary political conditions but also within its historical context since the nineteenth century. In particular, the course traces changes in relations between China and its surrounding regions since the modern era, focusing on colonial rule, war, and processes of decolonization, in order to clarify the historical background of today’s regional order.

Asia is a highly diverse region, with significant differences among countries in political systems, economic conditions, cultures, and values. In Part I, the course examines the formation of nation-states in East and Southeast Asia since the nineteenth century from a political-historical perspective and introduces key concepts for understanding Asia as a whole. At the same time, attention is paid to the dynamics of overseas Chinese communities, which have often been positioned as minorities in surrounding regions.

Building on the analytical approaches introduced in Part I, Part II focuses on China as the central actor in Asian politics. It provides an overview of the process of modern Chinese state formation and its external expansion up to the present, with the aim of identifying its key characteristics.

In Part III, the course uses Hong Kong as a case study to explore how regions on China’s periphery should respond to the growing influence of a rising China.

中国・香港を中心としたアジアの政治・社会情勢についての報道に常に注目しておくこと。報道から得た情報をもとにした小レポートを3回課す（関心のある新聞記事を見つけ、その内容を要約した上で、自身の分析を書く形式のレポート）。
