The aim of this course is to acquire basic knowledge about political thinkers and their social context. It will provide an overview of the intellectual history of early modern and modern Japan and explore its relevance to contemporary political issues.
This lecture examines the current of Japanese political thought from the 17th to the 19th century, focusing on the development of Confucianism and Kokugaku and the reception of modern Western thought, after an overview of the writings and social background of the major thinkers.

徳川時代から明治時代までの日本政治思想について通史的な知識を獲得し、現代の政治的課題について考察することができるようになる。

17世紀から19世紀にかけての日本政治思想の流れを概観し、儒学、国学、近代の西洋思想の受容を中心に、主要な思想家の著作と社会的背景について学ぶ。
