1. Students will be able to understand and explain the basic structure and theories of the mass media.
2. Students will be able to explain and consider the various issues and future possibilities for the relationship between politics and the media in the internet era.
The mass media is said to play such a large role in modern society that it is referred to as the “fourth power”. On the other hand, there is a strong view that people's contact with the mass media has decreased dramatically in the internet age. In such a situation, what is the relationship between politics and the mass media?
In this lecture, we will begin by explaining various theories related to the mass media system. In the middle, we will study media effect theory, which is a theory about the influence of the mass media on people. In the final part, we will introduce a discussion about the current situation of the media in the Internet age, and explain it in a way that will enable students to deepen their consideration of the future of politics and the media.

毎回の授業ではスライドのファイルを配布するので、ダウンロードをし、授業中に紙・電子媒体でアクセスできるようにしてください。また、毎回の授業でオンラインシステムを通じてリアクションペーパーを提出することが求められるので、提出可能な電子機器を準備してください。
受講生の皆さんが日常でメディアを利用する中、あるいは政治とメディアの関係を考える中で生じている疑問などをぜひ教えて欲しいと考えています。受講生の関心や理解度によって内容の変更もあり得ます。
1.マスメディアについて、基礎的なシステムの構造と諸理論を把握し、説明できるようになる。
2.インターネット時代における政治とメディアの関係が抱える諸問題、今後の発展可能性について説明・考察できるようになる。

マスメディアは現代社会において「第４の権力」と呼ばれるほど大きな役割を果たしているとされます。他方で、インターネット時代においては人々のマスメディアへの接触が激減したという見方が強い状況にあります。そのような状況下において、政治とマスメディアはどのような関係にあるのでしょうか。
本講義では、序盤に、マスメディアのシステムに関する諸理論を解説します。中盤では、マスメディアが人々に与える影響についての学説であるメディア効果論を学びます。終盤では、インターネット時代におけるメディアの現状に関する議論を紹介し、今後の政治とメディアのあり方について考察を深められることができるよう解説を行います。
