【Course Objectives】

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (i) Apply foundational principles and regulatory frameworks of Contract Law to practical case studies and real-world contexts; (ii) Critically interpret legal provisions, evaluating the rationale and objectives underlying specific legal rules; (iii) Utilize comparative legal analysis method to assess similarities and distinctions among key international legal systems (E.g., US, UK, Germany, France, Italy and Japan).

【Course Contents】

This course offers a comparative exploration of Contract Law across the European Civil Law system, the Common Law system, and Japan, highlighting their unique legal cultures and practices. Students will engage in an in-depth examination of contract drafting, interpretation, and key elements such as formation, performance, renegotiation, and remedies. Real-world case studies will illustrate cross-jurisdictional challenges and global market implications. The course further incorporates discussions on intersecting legal domains, such as consumer protection, data privacy, and industry-specific regulations in the banking, finance, and insurance sectors, serving as subjects for comparative analysis.
