【Course Objectives】

Students who need to improve their Japanese language skills in order to take lecture courses in the College of Law and Politics, where the language of instruction is Japanese, develop reading and writing skills through the use of textbooksin law and political science.
Students read texts related to their law and political science studies and explain the content in their own words. Based on their understanding of the texts, they write their own opinions, thereby enhancing their written communication skills. The writing component focuses on two areas: (1) building on assigned readings by researching additional literature and summarizing it in written reports, and (2) accurately comprehending texts and responding to questions in writing within a limited time. Students also learn vocabulary and sentence patterns essential for academic writing
in Japanese.
At the end of the course, students take written examinations modeled on reports and exams in specialized subjects to assess whether they have acquired sufficient Japanese language proficiency for their studies in the College of Law and Politics.
Through this course, students gain an understanding of how they are expected to engage in their studies in the College of Law and Politics and how to express their ideas in Japanese, and they develop the ability to put this understanding into practice.

【Course Contents】

This course focuses on developing two key skills: (1) responding to given questions in writing within a limited time, and (2) building on assigned readings by conducting further research and organizing the results into written reports.
Specifically, students learn and practice standard answer formats and formal conventions required for responding to examination questions. Students also read texts related to their studies in the Faculty of Law and explain the content in their own words. Based on their understanding of the texts, they further develop and write their own opinions. In addition, the course covers vocabulary and sentence patterns necessary for writing in Japanese.
In the latter half of the course, students take a written test modeled on reports and examinations in specialized subjects, allowing them to independently confirm whether they have acquired sufficient Japanese language proficiency for their studies in the College of Law and Politics.
