There are two objectives of this course. One is to acquire basic knowledge of the ethics. Another is to train the ability to interpret and organize the points which lie within a certain idea by reading literature.
In this seminar, students will learn basic knowledge of ethics and then discuss a number of contemporary moral issues, especially the mind-body ethics using that obtained knowledge. Ethical issues in relation to mind and body is, for example, cosmetic surgery, problems of gender incongruence (gender dysphoria, gender identity disorder), issues in regards to brain modifications by using drugs to increase memory or reasoning capabilities, and so on. These are called enhancement; medical intervention beyond medical treatment. Students will learn the basic knowledge of ethics and discuss some ethical issues related to mind and body throughout the whole, meanwhile students will also read some scientific nonfiction about consciousness and emotions for general public to deepen their knowledge base.

二つの目標があります。一つは、倫理学の基本的な知識を獲得すること、もう一つは、ある概念につき、そこに横たわる論点を見つけ出して解釈し整理する力を文献講読を通してトレーニングすることです。

この授業では、倫理学の基礎的な知識を学び、その知識を使って現在の様々な道徳的諸問題、特に心と体に関わる倫理問題について議論していきます。心と体に関わる倫理問題とは、例えば美容整形の是非、性別不合（性別違和、性同一性障害）をめぐる問題、記憶力や推論能力を強化するために薬を使用して脳の機能を向上させることが抱える問題、などです。これらは治療を超えた医学的介入であるとされ、エンハンスメントと呼ばれています。授業では、全体を通して倫理学の基礎的知識を学びながら心と体に関する倫理的諸問題を議論していきますが、授業の中盤に情動に関する科学啓蒙書を読み関連する知識の幅も深めていく予定です。
