In the 21st century, democracies are confronting a range of new challenges, including pandemics, climate change, technological threats, economic inequality, the instability of liberal democracy, and so-called "fragmentation" of society.
This seminar aims to equip students with key concepts and debates in democracy and international politics by engaging with relevant literature.
By actively participating in the course, students will have the opportunity to develop their academic skills, including presentation, debate, and report writing.
In this seminar, students will participate in a rotating system of reading and discussion based on assigned texts. Each session will feature designated presenters, who will provide a comprehensive summary of the readings, while the rest of the class will be required to submit a short comment paper prior to each session.
Discussions focus on the key issues and questions raised by the presenters and the submitted comment papers. Students may be divided into smaller groups to facilitate more in-depth discussion.
Group work will be organized based on students' individual interests, and each group will give a presentation.
Finally, students are required to submit a final report.

新しいテクノロジー、グローバル経済と格差、リベラル・デモクラシーの動揺、世代と社会の「分断」など、私たちの社会は21世紀の様々な諸課題に直面している。
本演習は、これらの問題を素描する文献を読み解きつつ、現代の民主主義における発展的概念や議論について学ぶことを目的とする。
また、授業への参加を通じて、テキスト要約の報告、論点の提出および討論、レポート執筆に関する学術的な基礎能力を身につけることも目標とする。

本演習では、政治学、民主主義に関わる入門的な文献を輪読しながら、各テーマについて討論する。報告担当者はテキストの内容報告を行う。それ以外の受講生は事前にコメント・ペーパー（400字程度）を提出する。
各回、コメント・ペーパーや報告者論点などからいくつかの問題提起をふまえた全体討論を行う。必要に応じて、より詳細な議論と分析を促すため、小グループに分かれて討論することもある。
授業後半では、個々の関心に応じてグループワークの時間を設け、最終的にグループ報告を行う予定である。
最後にゼミでの研究成果として個々の研究レポートを提出する。
