Writing is a form of art that comes with its own challenges. Legal research and writing can be particularly challenging, as it presents unique difficulties. Students and legal professionals must write in a fluid, clear, and objective way while navigating complex and often obscure legal language. Additionally, legal writing follows a specific argumentative style that is unique to the field and can vary based on whether one is writing from a common law or civil law perspective.
The main aim is to assist students in familiarizing themselves with academic research and writing and support them in engaging with argumentative writing in English.
In summary, this course aims to help students:
1) Better understand how to write academically and technically in English.
2) Gain a deeper understanding of research skills.
3) Practice writing problem questions and legal essays.
This course is designed to help students write clearly, effectively, and persuasively within both legal and academic frameworks.
The course begins with a review of English tools for improving writing. Next, it emphasizes argumentation and reasoning to help students learn to structure theoretical and philosophical arguments. The course then shifts focus to academic writing in law, teaching students to write well-structured essays and address problem questions.
The emphasis of this course is on researching legal information, developing coherent arguments, organizing research findings, and responding effectively to research or problem questions.
By the end of the course, students will have developed legal research and writing skills applicable to academic and professional contexts.
