【Course Objectives】

The objectives of this seminar are to acquire a basic knowledge about American politics and diplomacy, and to improve the students’ presentation and debating skills

【Course Contents】

 This course is designed to introduce students to the historical and contemporary issues related to American foreign policy and international relations. Students are required to read a number of basic texts about American foreign relations with special reference to Sino-US relations, US-Japan relations and Indo-Pacific region. Based on their understanding of the book materials, the attendees are strongly encouraged to participate in class discussions. Each session will assign a considerable amount of reading. The joint workshop with Prof. Shoji's seminar of Gakushuin Univ., and the quadripartite workshop of Prof. Oyane's seminar of Doshisha Univ., Prof. Wada's seminar of Aoyama Gakuin Univ. and Professor Tsuru of Sophia Univ. are scheduled to be held.
 The seminar discussions will provide students with a good opportunity to express themselves, cultivate and improve the ability to debate with others. Please note that the seminar is to use some English materials.
