The purposes of this course are (1) to examine problems around human life and death from legal and ethical aspects and (2) to develop the ability to observe through a multifaceted perspective.
A wide range of problems surround human life and death including prenatal diagnosis, surrogacy, euthanasia, death with dignity, brain death and organ transplantation. These are problems of bioethics, but this course considers them from a legal viewpoint as well.
Participants will be required to set their own bioethical issues, conduct their own research and report on their findings, and discuss them with the entire class, making use of the research and presentation skills you acquired in the first year. But the course is not intended to provide a "correct answer." All students should reconsider their values and existing ethical perspectives, then derive individual answers to problems that have no clear answers, and discuss them with others who have different values.
Note: The following course plan is only an example, and the actual topics to be covered will be determined according to the interests and wishes of the participants.

人の生と死をめぐる問題を法的・倫理的側面から検討し、 多角的な視点から物事を考察する力を身に付けます。
The purposes of this course are (1) to examine problems around human life and death from legal and ethical aspects and (2) to develop the ability to observe through a multifaceted perspective.
出生前診断、代理母出産、安楽死・尊厳死、脳死・臓器移植など、人の生と死をめぐる問題は多岐に渡ります。これらの問題は、「生命倫理」の問題として知られていますが、この授業では、生命倫理の問題を単に倫理的な側面からだけでなく、法的な側面からも考察します。
1年次に修得したリサーチやプレゼンテーションのスキルは活かし、生命倫理に関する問題を参加者自身で設定し、それについて自ら調べ報告を行い、クラス全員で議論を行います。なお、この授業は「正しい答え」を提供するものではありません。答えのない問題に自分なりの答えを導き、様々な価値観を持つ仲間との議論を通じて、自分の価値観や既存の倫理観を再考してみましょう。
なお、下記の授業計画はあくまでも一例であり、実際に授業で扱うテーマについては参加者の関心や希望により決定します。
