The goal of this class is to know what role firms and the business law plays in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and at the same time think about what we can do as a citizen.
In order to achieve the SDGs, it is important to utilize the power of private companies as well as governments and non-profit organizations. In fact, many companies are making efforts to achieve both business activities and solving social issues. Investors are also expanding their investment in consideration of environment, society and governance (ESG). In this class, you'll learn about the activities of these companies and investors and the business law that drives those activities (and skeptical views on these moves). At the same time, we would like to think about what we can do, for example, as consumers, investors, or workers / managers.
* I am a professor of commercial law (company law, etc.) and financial instruments and exchange law.

受講生にはSDGsに関連する企業の取り組みや法制度などの研究報告をしてもらう予定です。授業計画に「話題提供」とありますが、企業のホームページ情報を要約するだけの報告では不十分であり、話題提供のために相応の授業時間外学習が必要となります。受け身で教えてもらおう、楽をして単位を取りたい、という考えの学生は、本演習を取らないほうが良いと思います。

①題目：SDGsやESGに関するニュースや議論等で気になったものを説明してください。
②本文の字数：1000字から1500字程度

国連が定めた持続可能な開発目標（SDGs）を達成するために、企業やビジネスローがどのような役割を果たしているのか知ると同時に、自分自身が一市民として何ができるのか考える。

SDGsを達成するためには、政府や非営利団体などだけでなく、民間企業の力を活用することが大切になります。実際に、多くの企業が事業活動と社会課題解決の両立に向けた取り組みを進めています。また、投資家も環境・社会・ガバナンス（ESG）を考慮した投資を拡大しています。この授業では、こうした企業や投資家の活動とそれを後押しするビジネスローについて学びます（これらの動きに対して懐疑的な見解も取り上げます）。それと同時に、私たち自身が、例えば消費者・投資者・労働者/経営者などとして、何ができるのか考えたいと思います。
＊なお、私は商法（会社法等）と金融商品取引法の教員です。
