The objective of this seminar is to analyse and discuss contemporary Australian society and politics by reading literatures in English about Australian politics.
In Australia, the general election held on 3 May 2025 resulted in massive victory for the incumbent Australian Labor Party led by Anthony Albanese. In December 2025, the Albanese government commenced the social media ban for youth under 16 years old and attracted wide-raging interests. The performance of the group of articulate professional women who obtained seats in recent elections and appeared to cause the realignment of Australia's party system is worth observing. At the same time, the Liberal-National Coalition which for the long time has been on the centre-right side of Australian two-partism is in deep trouble and a far-right wing populist party has increased support especially among white, middle aged male in region. We are going to look into the contemporary Australian society via reading materials related to the above points.

オーストラリア政治に関する英語文献の講読を通じ，現代社会・政治について考える。
The objective of this seminar is to analyse and discuss contemporary Australian society and politics by reading literatures in English about Australian politics.
2025年5月3日にオーストラリアの連邦総選挙が実施され、2022年5月の連邦総選挙において8年9か月ぶりに政権に復帰したアンソニー・アルバニージー率いるオーストラリア労働党が、空前の大勝で再選を果たした。2025年12月には、世界に先駆けて16歳未満の子どもがソーシャルメディアのアカウントを作ることを禁止する法を施行し、大きな注目を集めている。ここ数回の選挙で無所属候補として当選を果たし、オーストラリアの政党制度を根本から変えたように思われる女性議員たちの躍進も興味深い。同時に、二大政党の一翼を担ってきた中道保守政党が混迷を深めるなか、極右ポピュリスト政党が中高年の白人男性を中心に特に地方部で支持を伸ばしている。オーストラリアの現代社会を考察するような英語文献を読み、ともに考えていきたい。
