Students will gain a multifaceted understanding of German culture and society by analyzing key literary and artistic works.
This course examines German history from the Middle Ages to the modern era through a cultural lens. From the 18th century onward, Germany saw a burgeoning interest in its national past, leading to the rediscovery of seminal works such as The Nibelungenlied and the Grimm Brothers' Fairy Tales. These revivals reflect the contemporary aspirations and intellectual climate of their time. By analyzing representative works from various periods, students will explore the formation of culture and tradition, thereby deepening their understanding of the German-speaking world.

ドイツの文学作品や芸術作品を読み解くことで、そこに映し出された基礎的なドイツ文化や社会を多角的に理解できるようになる。

本講義では中世から近代に至るドイツの歴史を文化的な側面から捉えてみたいと思います。ドイツでは18世紀から次第に祖国の過去に対する関心が高まります。『ニーベルンゲンの歌』やグリム童話はまさにこうした機運のなかで〈再発見〉されたものであり、そこにはそれらの作品が再発掘された当時の人々のさまざまな期待や願望が投影されています。授業ではそれぞれの時代を代表する作品を取り上げ、文化や伝統がいかに形成されるのか検討することで、ドイツ語圏の文化についての理解を深めます。
