This course aims to reconstruct the cultural history of China and Japan from the First Sino-Japanese War to the Shōwa period through close reading of literary works and contemporary commentary, and to develop a multifaceted understanding of how mutual perceptions were formed and transformed.
1. Students will analyze the writings and discourse of major intellectuals and writers active in the history of Sino-Japanese relations, and gain an understanding of the role and image of intellectuals within that historical context.
2. Students will read literary and critical texts analytically and critically, and examine the ideological, political, and cultural contexts underlying the discourse.
3. Students will relativize ethnocentric perspectives and, from a pluralistic cultural viewpoint, grasp the representations of Sino-Japanese relations as they developed in complex and changing ways.
This course reconstructs and reexamines the cultural history of China and Japan from the First Sino-Japanese War to the modern and contemporary period through literary works and current-affairs commentary produced by intellectuals in both countries. Focusing on key figures, it explores how mutual perceptions were formed and transformed from the perspectives of intellectual history, the history of emotions, and media representation. Through comparative reading of translations and original texts, students analyze the intellectual, political, and cultural backgrounds underlying various discourses. By paying attention to how historical facts are narrated, the course reinterprets Sino-Japanese relations from a cultural perspective.

多彩な学び科目
本講義は、文学作品および時事評論を講読し、日清戦争から昭和期までの日中文化史を再現し、相互認識の形成と変容を多角的に理解することを目的とする。
1．日中関係史のなかで活躍した重要な知識人・作家の言説を解読し、日中関係史のなかの知識人像を理解する。
2．文学作品および評論テキストを批判的に読み、言説の背後にある思想・政治・文化的文脈を理解する。
3．自文化中心的な理解を相対化し、多元的な文化の視点から、複雑に変化する日中関係の表象を把握する。

日清戦争から近現代に至るまでの日中文化史を、両国の知識人が残した文学作品および時事評論を通して再現・再検討する。人物を軸に、知識史・感情史・メディア表象の視点から、相互認識がどのように形成され、変化してきたのかを考察する。翻訳テキストと原文の読解を通じて、言説の背後にある思想・政治・文化的背景を分析する。歴史事実の「語られ方」に着目し、文化的視角から日中関係を再整理する。
