Students will learn braille as new "characters of mine" and become familiar with the lives of people who use them (especially people with severe visual impairment).
Braille is a set of characters shared by all humans. It is not a set of symbols used only by visually impaired people "in place of letters." However, unfortunately, this cannot be said to be the common understanding at present. This fact clearly illustrates the situation surrounding human rights where the blind are the main users of Braille today. In this class, we want students to learn Braille as new "characters of mine" and think deeply about characters and human rights, and more broadly about the question "What are human rights?"

多彩な学び
本科目は、担当教員の実務経験、または実務に従事するゲスト・スピーカーの招聘講義等を活かした授業である。
点字を新たな「自分の文字」として習得するとともに、それを使用している人々（特に重度の視覚障害者）の生活実感を身近なものにする。
Students will learn braille as new "characters of mine" and become familiar with the lives of people who use them (especially people with severe visual impairment).
点字は、人類共有の文字である。決して視覚障害者だけが「文字の代わりに」使用する記号ではない。しかし、残念なことに、これは現在一般的な共通認識となっているとは言えない。この事実が、今日点字の主たる使用者である視覚障害者が置かれている人権をめぐる状況を如実に物語っている。この授業では、点字を新たな「自分の文字」として習得するとともに、文字と人権、そして更に広く「人権とは何か」について深く考えたい。
