・To understand that the seemingly simple concept of "words" gives rise to various cultures such as philosophy, religion, and art.
・To reconsidering "words" as the basis of European culture.
What are "words"? For example, today we see language as a means of communication and self-expression. However, in European thought, "word" has traditionally been given a deeper role as a tool for communication and thinking. This lecture will deal with the diverse nature of "word" that appeared in European cultural history through various texts such as thought, religion, and literature. Let's learn about European ways of thinking about "word", such as early Christian spirituality, medieval German mysticism, modern romanticism and idealism, and Heidegger's philosophy.

「ことば」とはなんでしょうか？現代の私たちは例えば、コミニュケーションの手段として、あるいは自己を表現する手段として言語を捉えています。しかしヨーロッパの思想において、「ことば」は伝統的に、単なる意思疎通や思考の道具以上の深い役割を与えられてきました。本講義では、思想・宗教・文学といった多様なテクストを通じて、ヨーロッパ文化に現れた「ことば」が持つ多様な意義に触れていきます。初期キリスト教における「ことば」観を出発点として、中世ドイツ語で語られた神秘主義、近代のロマン主義や観念論、現代哲学に至るまで、ヨーロッパ精神史を貫いて流れる「ことば」をめぐる思索を一緒に紐解いてみましょう。
