Although Africa is far away from Japan in terms of distance, the problems that Africa faces are also our own problems living in the same era. The purpose of this class is to deepen understanding of Africa by examining contemporary African societies from the perspectives of cultural anthropology and geography. It is expected that by learning about African culture, students will be able to explain to others the problems facing our society today.
African societies try to overcome various hardships such as global capitalism, development, conflict, climate change, food shortages, and infectious diseases through the unique culture and social bonds that they have nurtured. This class will cover tourism, indigenous peoples, conservation, infectious diseases, education, African literature, indigenous agriculture, pastoral culture, cities, cell phones, and social networking.

日本から距離的には遠いアフリカですが、アフリカの抱える問題は、同時代に生きる私たち自身の問題でもあります。本授業は 現代アフリカ社会を人類学と地理学の視点を中心に多角的に考察し、アフリカ理解を深めることを目標とします。アフリカの文化を学ぶことを通して、現代社会が直面する諸問題を第三者に説明できるようになることが期待されます。

グローバル資本主義の席巻、開発、紛争、気候変動、食糧難や感染症といったさまざまな苦難にさらされながらも、アフリカ社会が育んできた独自の文化と社会的紐帯によって乗り越えようとしている姿を、観光、先住民、自然保護、感染症、教育、アフリカ文学、在来農業、牧畜文化、都市、携帯電話、SNS といった具体的なトピックから紹介します。
