1) While introducing themes and political ideas handled by political science, this course aims to deepen student's understanding of various problems in modern society. 2) Through writing reports and mutual evaluations between students, this course aims to strengthen the basic writing skills that are a necessity of every student. 3) Through the objectives described above, I would like to train people who can think on their own about various problems in modern society and who try to express their ideas in their own words.
This course is not a lecture to watch movies dealing with politics. Also, it is not a course where you can easily take credits. Rather, this is a type of lecutre that uses movies as an auxiliary line to understand the main themes and basic concepts of political science, and by doing so, considers various problems in modern society.
This year's lectures will look squarely at the reality of the limitations in our lives, which are said to be "free" and which actually seem to be "free." The lecture will begin with Machiavelli of the European Renaissance, then examine the relationship between human freedom and the Protestant faith. We will also consider the conflict that existed in the 20th century between the welfare state, which sought to realize substantial freedom by guaranteeing the right to life and social rights, and neoliberalism, which called for people to live freely through self-help and personal responsibility without relying on government. We will then introduce Weber's criticism of bureaucracy, and then move on to Arendt, who stressed the importance of continuing to think in order to resist totalitarianism. We will also introduce Fromm, who analyzed the psychology of the masses, who try to escape anxiety by conforming to authoritarian leaders and the people around them, and Foucault, who discussed the power technique of disciplinary training that produces people suitable for power. Currently, democracy is in a state of crisis due to information manipulation via social media, so I would like to consider how we can rebuild it.
In this way, the aim of this course is to nurture the eyes of students to see society through discussions on important themes in modern society. And this course emphasizes "output" that requires you to think and write for yourself. Since only two credits will be received, in terms of the efficiency of acquiring credits, this course has poor "cost performance or time performance". But I think this course will be a good opportunity for those who want to deepen their own thoughts and value expressing them to others.

| 講義で提示するテーマで小レポートを5回執筆し、執筆した小レポートを学生同士で4回相互評価します。 |
この講義では、学生が書いた小レポートを学生同士で批評し合う課題が複数回設定されています。まず、履修者は、講義レジュメの中で提示されたテーマで小レポートを5回執筆しなければなりません。提出した小レポートは履修者全員に公開されますので、他人が読むことを前提にしたしっかりとした内容の文章を書く必要があります。次に、他の履修者のレポートを5～10枚ほど読んだ上で、レポート評価シートを2枚作成する課題も4回行います。作成したレポート評価シートはレポート執筆者の手に渡りますので、レポート内容を踏まえた誠実なコメントを書かなければなりません。
以上からもわかるように、他者に対して責任の取れる文章を書こうとする姿勢と、そのための執筆時間が、この講義では求められています。ですので、楽して単位を取りたい学生の履修は、ご遠慮願います。

1．政治学が扱ってきたテーマや政治思想を紹介しながら、現代社会が抱える様々な問題について理解を深めていきたいと思います。 2．小レポートの作成と学生同士の相互評価を通じて、学生にとって必要となる基礎的な文章能力の向上を図ります。 3．以上の目標を通じて、現代社会の諸問題について自ら考え、自分の言葉で表現しようとする人間を育てたいと思います。

この講義は、政治を扱った映画を見る講義ではありません。また「楽単」と呼ばれるような講義でもありません。政治学の主要テーマや基本概念を理解するための補助線として映画を利用し、そうすることで現代社会が抱える様々な問題について考えていくタイプの講義です。
今年の講義は、「自由」であると言われ、実際「自由」であるかのように思える私たちの暮らしの不自由な現実を直視していこうと思います。講義はまず、ヨーロッパ・ルネサンス期のマキアヴェッリから始まり、次に人間の自由とプロテスタンティズムの信仰との関連性について確認します。また、20世紀においては、生存権・社会権を保障することで実質的な自由を実現しようとした福祉国家と、政府に頼ることなく自助努力・自己責任で自由に生きることを求めるネオ・リベラリズムとの対立について考察します。その後、ヴェーバーによる官僚制批判を紹介した上で、全体主義に抵抗するために思考し続けることの大切さを説いたアーレントを取り上げていきます。また、権威主義的指導者や周囲の人々に同調することによって不安から逃れようとする大衆心理を分析したフロム、規律訓練という権力にとって相応しい人間を生み出していく権力技術について論じたフーコーも紹介します。そして現在、SNSを介した情報操作によって民主主義は危機的状況に陥っていますが、その民主主義をどのように立て直していったらよいかについても考察していきたいと思います。
このように現代社会を考える上で重要なテーマを取り上げることで、学生自身の社会を視る眼を育てていくことが、この講義のねらいです。また、自分で考え、それを文章として書くことが求められる「出力」重視の講義です。得られる単位は2単位だけなので、単位取得効率の点から言えば甚だ「コスパ／タイパ」の悪い講義ですが、自らの考えを深め、それを他者に向けて表現していくことを大切にしたい人には良い機会になると思います。
