1) By looking back at social movements in Japan, I would like to deepen my understanding of the merits and problems of the political principles of democracy. 2) Through writing reports and mutual evaluations between students, this course aims to strengthen the basic writing skills that are a necessity of every student. 3) Through the objectives described above, I would like to train people who can think on their own about various problems in modern society and who try to express their ideas in their own words.
This course is not a lecture to watch movies dealing with politics. Also, it is not a course where you can easily take credits. Rather, this is a type of lecutre that uses movies as an auxiliary line to understand the main themes and basic concepts of political science, and by doing so, considers various problems in modern society.
This year's lectures will focus on critically considering the reality of the limitations of our world, which is said to be "free" and which in fact appears to be "free."
The lecture begins with an introduction to two freedoms and two political principles: democracy and liberalism. We will then trace the characteristics of the political principles of democracy to ancient Athens, Greece, where the word democracy was first coined. In short, the political principle of democracy can be described as a political principle with the character of a social movement that seeks to create and govern one's own community with one's own hands. I would also like to look at the youth rebellions that were attempted intensively in the late 1960s as an attempt at such a social movement, namely the university struggles and counter-culture movements that protested against modern society. However, most of the youth rebellions ended in failure. Furthermore, the political system of democracy can often run wild due to the power of the masses, giving rise to dictatorship and populism. I would like to consider the causes of such failures and runaway democracy by reexamining the political principles of democracy. However, new attempts have emerged from the rebellion and failures of young people. For example, the failure of university protests gave rise to the Women's Lib Movement/Second Wave Feminism, which does not aim for revolutionary system change, but rather questions the various difficulties and discrimination that exist in everyday life. A network-based movement style also emerged, in which various people gathered around a single issue and expressed their intention to protest in various ways. These types of questions and movement styles are still being carried out in various places today. From that point of view, it seems to me that the possibilities for social movements are still expanding.
In this way, the aim of this lecture is to develop students' perspective on society by addressing such important themes when thinking about modern society. The lectures also emphasize "output," requiring students to think for themselves and write their thoughts down. Since only two credits will be received, in terms of the efficiency of acquiring credits, this course has poor "cost performance or time performance". But I think it will be good training for those who want to deepen their own thoughts and value expressing them to others.

| 学生同士によるレポートの相互評価 |
この講義では、学生が書いた小レポートを学生同士で相互に批評し合う課題が複数回設定されています。
まず、履修者は、講義レジュメの中で提示されたテーマで小レポートを5回執筆しなければなりません。提出した小レポートは履修者全員に公開されますので、他人が読むことを前提にしたしっかりとした内容の文章を書く必要があります。次に、他の履修者のレポートを5～10枚ほど読んだ上で、レポート評価シートを2枚作成する課題も4回行います。作成したレポート評価シートはレポート執筆者の手に渡りますので、レポートの内容を踏まえたしっかりとしたコメントを書かなければなりません。
以上からもわかるように、他者に対して責任の取れる文章を書こうとする姿勢と、そのための執筆時間が、この講義では求められます。ですので、楽して単位を取りたい学生には、不向きな講義です。

多彩な学び科目
1．日本の社会運動を振り返りながら、デモクラシーの政治原理の優れている点とその問題点について理解を深めていきたいと思います。 2．小レポートの作成と学生同士の相互評価を通じて、学生にとって必要となる基礎的な文章能力の向上を図ります。 3．以上の目標を通じて、現代社会の諸問題について自ら考え、自分の言葉で表現しようとする人間を育てたいと思います。

この講義は、政治を扱った映画を見る講義ではありません。また「楽単」と呼ばれるような講義でもありません。政治学の主要テーマや基本概念を理解するために、その理解の補助線として映画を利用し、そうすることで現代社会が抱える様々な問題について考えていくタイプの講義です。
講義は、まずデモクラシーとリベラリズムという、二つの自由と二つの政治原理の紹介から始まります。そして、デモクラシーの政治原理の特徴を、デモクラシーという言葉が最初に生まれた古代ギリシア・アテナイに求めていきます。一言でいえば、デモクラシーの政治原理は、自分たちのコミュニティを自分たちの手で生み出し、自治していこうとする社会運動的な性格を持った政治原理と言えます。そして、そのような社会運動の試みとして、1960年代末に集中的に試みられた若者たちの反乱、すなわち大学闘争やカウンター・カルチュアによる現代社会への異議申し立て運動を確認してみたいと思います。ですが、若者たちの反乱は、その多くが失敗に終わりました。またデモクラシーという政治体制は、大衆の力によってしばしば暴走し、独裁やポピュリズムを生み出します。このようなデモクラシーの失敗や暴走の原因を、やはりデモクラシーの政治原理を再検討することで考えてみたいと思います。ですが、若者たちの反乱と失敗の中から、新しい試みも生まれてきました。例えば、大学闘争の失敗から、革命のような体制変革を目指すのではなく、日常の中にある様々な生きづらさや差別を問い直していくウィメンズ・リブ／第二派フェミニズムの試みが生まれました。また、一つの争点に様々な人々が集まり、様々な方法で抗議の意思を表明していく、ネットワーク型の運動スタイルも生まれました。そして、このような問いかけや運動スタイルは、現在も様々な場所で行われています。その点から言えば、社会運動の可能性は、まだまだ拡がっているように思います。
このように現代社会を考える上で重要なテーマを取り上げることで、学生自身の社会を視る眼を育てていくことが、この講義のねらいです。また、自分で考え、それを文章として書くことが求められる「出力」重視の講義です。得られる単位は2単位だけなので、単位取得効率の点から言えば甚だ「コスパ／タイパ」の悪い講義ですが、自分の考えを深め、それを他者に向けて表現していくことを大切にしたい人には、良い訓練になると思います。
