Notes

【Course Objectives】

This class focuses on three areas: "life," "dignity," and "welfare (social work)." We will carefully consider each concept in depth. In particular, we will approach and deepen our understanding of the vague concepts of "life" and "dignity" through familiar examples and events. Furthermore, we will be aware that these concepts are conceptually similar to the goal of social work, which is to "enhance well-being."

The development of science has had a major impact on human birth, aging, illness, and death, contributing to delaying death and extending the period of "life." In particular, the development of medicine and healthcare has come to intervene in all aspects of birth, aging, illness, and death, controlling people's lives. Ultimately, the development of medicine and science has come to be involved in the birth of "life," but on the other hand, it has also forced us to question the very essence of "dignity."
From the perspective of a medical social work specialist, we will deepen our understanding by examining the relationships and perspectives between the development of medicine and healthcare and "life," "dignity," and "social work."

【Course Contents】

IBy taking up and explaining various phenomena and events related to "life" and "dignity," I hope to be able to make abstract concepts more familiar and concretely understandable. Currently, I plan to cover themes such as "baby hatches," "prenatal diagnosis," "regenerative medicine," "organ donation," "death with dignity," and "SDGs." However, I may change the theme in order to consider more familiar themes.
